A beautiful antique teak military chest dating from the 19th century, with steel and brass mounts and VR initials (Victoria Regina), in brass, on the top - H59cm W96.5 D64.5 max
Believed to be originally owned by a soldier from the Household Cavalry Composite Regiment which was a temporary, wartime-only, cavalry regiment of the British Army. It consisted of personnel drawn from the 1st Life Guards, 2nd Life Guards and Royal Horse Guards … the 2 on the front referring to the 2nd Life Guards.
The regiment was active in 1882 for service in the Anglo-Egyptian War, in 1889–1900 during the Second Boer War, from August to November, 1914 during the opening months of World War I and in World War II.
