A self taught artist, John Thompson was born into a poor family in Oldham in 1924. The only surviving son to reach teenage years, he had to leave school at 14 years old to contribute to the household income. At the age of 56, John became a full time artist and found much success with one of his works being purchased by the House of Lords where it now hangs in committee rooms.
His subjects were many and varied but he became best known for his Groups Series - images of the working man. His works are now represented in private collections all over the World.
