A rare blue large 'Dahlia' glass perfume bottle, No. 615, designed in 1931, of circular form, stained and relief-moulded glass in the form of a dahlia flower head with enamel decoration to the centre. Acid-etched 'R. LALIQUE, FRANCE' to the base - W: 17cm, D: 8cm, H: 21cm

René Lalique was born in 1860 and began his career as a jewellery apprentice. By 1881, he was a freelance designer for many of the best known Parisian jewellers then, in 1885, he opened his own workshop on Place Gaillon in Paris. In 1887, Lalique opened a business on Rue Du Quatre-Septembre and registered the 'RL' mark the following year. Within a decade, Lalique was amongst the best known Parisian jewellers.

In 1905, Lalique opened a new shop at Place Vendôme exhibiting not only jewellery but glass works as well. It was close to renowned perfumer, François Coty and, in 1907, Lalique began producing ornate perfume bottles for Coty. During the 1920's and 30's, Lalique was amongst the Worlds most renowned glassmakers.

The rare piece is a beautiful example of a René Lalique perfume bottle and is highly desirable.
